Welcome!

I’m Rohan Selva-Radov, an undergraduate studying at Merton College, University of Oxford. You can contact me by email at rohanselvaradov@outlook.com.

My degree is in PPE (philosophy, politics and economics), but I like to spend my time doing other things, some of which include:

  • Tinkering with ML projects, watching pretty maths videos
  • Gardening, calligraphy, letter-writing, long walks
  • Running, singing out loud, experimenting with new hobbies

Two other facts about me: I donate 10% of my income to high-impact charities, and I only consume vegan products (for a mixture of animal welfare and environmental reasons). I think the world would be a better place if there was a stronger norm of people doing those things – and you can join & contribute if you don’t already! Morality is not all-or-nothing, and it would be a good thing even to give away 1% of your income, or just slightly reduce how many animals you eat.

This list of questions I wrote gives you a sense of the sorts of things that interest me in the world, though if you want to see how I present myself academically, you can take a look at the personal statement I wrote for my Oxford application. You might also be interested in reading my thoughts on the first year of PPE, or browsing through the tutorial essays I wrote.

I’m still figuring out how I want to manage my online presence. In the past, I erred very strongly on the side of keeping my thoughts entirely to myself. Now I want to give the other extreme a go, and am experimenting with publishing lots more, including rough drafts - so not everything here will be fully fleshed-out or thought through. There are also some pieces which I wrote in the past but no longer endorse the content of, which are normally (but not necessarily) marked out with a preamble saying why.

If you’re looking at the site on a large screen, some of the sidenotes on posts may overlap with each other – I haven’t worked out a way to repair it yet, but in the meantime, you can just zoom in and things should fix themselves.
